Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low Speed Follow (LSF) – Honda Safety Tech

If you think that being stuck in traffic isn’t fun than you’re in good company, according to a recent study a third of Canadians find their commute too long and find travelling to and from work stressful. Honda aims to lessen the burden and stress you feel on your daily commute by introducing a combination of safety and convenience features, known as the Honda Sensing Suite. The feature in focus today is Honda’s Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low Speed Follow (LSF), so how does it work? ACC uses a forward mounted camera in combination with sensors located in the front of the vehicle to scan the road for any vehicles ahead of you. The system can determine the speed and distance of the vehicles in front of you and sets an appropriate distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. If the vehicle in front of you slows down below the speed that you set, ACC will automatically brake to maintain an appropriate and safe distance. For any Honda equipped with the Low Speed Follow (LSF) the ACC becomes even more useful. If you are experiencing light traffic and the vehicle in front of you comes to a stop, the system will come to a complete stop as well. Once the vehicle ahead of you starts moving, LSF will register this and begin accelerating the vehicle back up to your set speed while still keeping a minimum safe distance from other vehicles in front of you. It’s important to note the system can only be set between speeds of 40-140 km/h. (The system will go below 40 km/h if already set.)

How Does Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low Speed Follow (LSF) Work?

To activate your Adaptive Cruise Control System (no additional steps for LSF) you need to:

To start, activate your cruise control like you would on any Honda Vehicle. Once you are travelling at your desired speed, press the “MAIN” button located on the right of your steering wheel and then press “SET/-” to lock in your speed.

From here you can adjust your speed in 1 km/h increments by pressing “RES/+” to increase speed and “SET/-” to decrease speed. Or use longer presses to adjust the speed 5 km/h at a time.

Use the interval button located on the right hand side of your steering wheel (car icon) to adjust the distance that you follow the vehicle ahead of you. Your options are Short, Medium, Long and Extra Long depending on the level of traffic and your personal preference.

As a side note If press “SET/-” below 40 km/h then the system will set the speed for 40 km/h as this is the minimum speed for the system to operate at.
