2022 Honda Odyssey vs 2021 Toyota Sienna Comparison

When shopping around for a minivan, the two most popular options year over year are the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna. This is for good reason, both vehicles consistently provide a quality vehicle that drivers have grown to trust. This article compares the two top-selling vans in the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna.

Both fully loaded trims for the Odyssey (Touring) and Sienna (Limited) have pretty much every feature you can imagine, including the following driver assistance features:

  • Backup camera
  • Brake Assist
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Lane Keeping Assist
  •  Cross-traffic Alert
  •  Rear Parking Aid
  •  Adaptive Cruise Control

The largest difference on these two fully loaded vans is the $3885 you save going for the Odyssey touring.

Model Changes

Honda Canada has done away with the less popular LX and EX trims, meaning the entry-level odyssey is now the EX-RES. This means even the entry-level of the Odyssey is extremely well equipped with a rear entertainment system, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Standard Apple CarPlay / Android Auto power seats and doors, and a remote start.

The 2021 Toyota Sienna has gone away from a v6 engine for a less powerful 4-cylinder which is augmented by electric motors. This improves fuel efficiency but leaves the Sienna lacking in power, particularly with its 176 torque compared to the Odyssey's 262 torque. The Odyssey has a punchier feel that is great for merging in and out of tight traffic or needing to quickly pass on a 1 lane highway.

The Verdict

Unsurprisingly both the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna offer incredible value across the multiple trims that are offered. The downsized engine will undoubtedly change the driving experience of the Sienna with less power and acceleration as a result of the lowered torque. The Sienna has the less expensive entry option while the Odyssey has the less expensive top of the line option. Some features like the Wifi Hotspot are only available on the Honda Odyssey, which gives it an edge for families who rely on this feature. In reality, personal preference and how the vehicle drives will most likely be the deciding factor for which van is best for you and your family.
