The annual J.D Power Initial Quality Study for 2022 is published. Surveying thousands of owners across the country in the first 90 days of owning their vehicles, and measuring the average number of vehicle problems.
The Honda Odyssey is named the highest initial quality of any minivan on the road today. Notably, the Odyssey is the only van performing above the segment average. After ranking 2nd in initial quality last year, the 2022 Odyssey now stands above the competition.
The 2022 Initial Quality Study is in its 36th year and receives responses from 84,165 purchasers and lessees. Naturally, all surveys are completed early in the ownership period.
It measures initial quality by the number of problems per 100 vehicles (PP100) during the first 90 days of ownership. A lower score means higher quality.
The study is based on a 223-question battery organized into nine vehicle categories. Therefore, helping manufacturers see information that facilitates identifying problems. Or, that drives product improvement. The study was fielded from February through May 2022.
